Jammu: Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday detained three Rohingyas who are illegally settled in the Channi Himmat area of jammu and seized a sum of Rs 30 lakh in cash from their possession.

While confirming the arrest of three Rohingyas, SSP Vivek Gupta told MyNation, “Three Rohingyas have been detained after the seizure of the cash. However we are looking for the kingpins of this gang.”

The police were tipped off about the whereabouts of the Rohingya cabal. When they raided the slum, Ismayil and Noor Alam, two Rohingyas, had fled the scene, dumping behind the cash.

“We are trying to trace the source of this huge amount of cash. We are working on various theories including their involvement in thefts, narco-smuggling and terror-related incidents.” The SSP told MyNation.

“We are investigating every angle. Nothing can be ruled out at this initial stage,” said SSP Vivek Gupta.

Earlier this year, a human trafficking racket operating in Jammu was exposed by Jammu and Kashmir Police. A Rohingya named Noor Gul Ameen had brought minor girls from Myanmar to sell them in Jammu. Three of the girls were rescued by the police.

Ameen had told the police that he brought the girls from Myanmar to India for getting them jobs. He told the police he sent the girls to different parts of the country after assembling them in Jammu.

The police said Jammu was being used as a transit camp and becoming a big market of human trafficking for Rohingyas.

“Minor girls from Myanmar are first brought to New Delhi and then sent to Jammu,” Noor told the police. A girl is sold for a sum between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000.

Besides, a number of Rohingyas have been booked in Jammu for their alleged involvement in drug peddling.

As per official estimates, over 20,000 Rohingyas are living in Jammu. Earlier this month while speaking during the Question Hour in Lok Sabha, BJP MP Jugal Kishore informed the nation that there were 18,000-30,000 Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir.

The MP, while terming Rohingyas as a security threat, said, “I have concrete proof that they are involved in terror-related activities; terrorists who attacked the Sunjwan Army Camp have entered through houses of these illegal Rohingya migrants.”
