Make the highlights as this: According to the complaint, a section of the crowd had harassed Republic TV reporter Shivani Gupta at the Parliament Street during Jignesh Mevani's rally
New Delhi: After the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) asked the editor-in-chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami, to air an apology on the channel for its January 9 report on one of its employees Shivani Gupta being harassed, Delhi Police has converted the complaint by Republic TV into a non-cognisable information report (NCIR) against a set of people on harassment and intimidation charges.
The NCIR (No 0014/2018) has been registered at the Parliament Street Police Station.
According to the complaint, a section of the crowd had harassed her on Parliament Street where Jignesh Mevani was to address a rally. The entire event was beamed live on the said channel, and the video has been shared with the police. The name of a person from the crowd, Apurv Singh, has been given to the police.
Singh, interestingly, is the same man who had registered a complaint against Goswami’s news station at the NBSA for allegedly “defaming” him.
According to the channel, the video is sufficient to substantiate its claim that Gupta was intimidated by the supporters of Mevani, a newly-elected MLA from Gujarat and a known Modi-basher.
Republic TV maintains that the complaint was filed for the dignity of the reporter and so that the alleged perpetrator is brought to book.
On Wednesday, speaking to MyNation, Goswami said, “I will say it again: a bunch of vulgar perverts attacked Shivani.”
