Reliance Jio has done it yet again. The company has left behind Vodafone India and Idea Cellular in the race to emerge as the second largest telecom operator in terms of subscriber base at the end of July. The result has been revealed by the data released by the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) on Tuesday.

Jio added the most number of subscribers in its kitty in the month of July thereby taking its tally ahead of Idea and Vodafone. Currently, the subscriber base for Jio stands at 227 million. Until June, despite adding the maximum number of subscribers, the telecom company stood at the fourth position, behind its competitors Idea and Vodafone with 215 million subscribers.

However, since Idea and Vodafone have joined hands and emerged as one, their total combined subscriber base is at the top. After the merger, it has pushed Bharti Airtel to the second position, thereby pushing Jio to the third.

As per the reports, almost 50% of the new subscriber additions on Jio’s network is coming from Jio phone, since the last couple of months. Especially the time when it cut the price of its 4G feature phone from Rs 1,500 to Rs 501 in exchange for an old feature phone. While earlier, Jio used to add around 6-7 million subscribers per month, it has now started adding around 10-12 million a month.
