New Delhi: Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2018, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said that today India is in fear. Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he criticised the Narendra Modi government and accused the BJP for spreading hatred and dividing the people over its policies. Gandhi was speaking at the summit on the theme ‘Reimagining the Future’. Other prominent speakers at the summit include Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, football legend Pele, Will Smith among others.

Here’s what Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said:

1.    Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Gandhi said, “The government has gone to war with the people. A single, suffocating ideology is being imposed upon 1.2 billion. India is a partnership between all its peoples. We don’t believe in binaries”.

2.    On GST and demonetisation, he said that demonetisation has wiped out 2% of the GDP. "We had a different concept of the GST too, but the government did not listen to us," he said.

3.    “I don’t see the (Congress) alliance with BSP not working out impacting us in elections,” he says on the Congress-BSP alliance.

4.    On his temple run, the Congress head said that the BJP thinks only they can go visit temples. He says that he has been going to temples, gurdwaras, mosques for years, but it has suddenly started coming in public eyes. "I guess BJP doesn’t like it. It infuriates them,” he said.

5.    Speaking on India’s foreign policy, Gandhi noted, “You cannot disconnect what’s happening in the world with what’s happening in the country". He remarked that India's foreign policy has no strategic thought. "You do something on Doklam - then you do something else. Nepal is gone, Maldives is gone”.

6.    When asked what he would do if the Congress rises to power, Gandhi said, “I will strengthen the small and medium enterprise. I will make farmers feel like they are important and I will build a low cost-high quality medical and education infrastructure”.
