New Delhi: The two-day long BJP national executive in New Delhi was less about deliberation on policies and more about deciding upon the electoral planks, with a single-point agenda to win the 2019 general election with a larger mandate from that of 2014. If 2014 was fought with the slogan “Ab ki bar, Modi sarkar’, the BJP will go all out this time, starting tomorrow, with the slogan of ‘Ajeya Bharat, Atal Bhajpa’.

Though a senior minister in Modi Cabinet told MyNation that there could be another slogan for television, radio, print or multimedia just a couple of months ahead of the election when campaigning will be on full swing, for now this is the slogan with which cadres will hit the ground immediately.

For the BJP, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, its iconic leader who died recently, will play an overarching theme this election. No wonder then, the former Prime Minister’s name found a place in the slogan coined by none other than Narendra Modi. In fact, the premises of the venue on Janpath where BJP held its national executive was plastered with Vajpayee’s photos.

Modi also took a sharp jibe at leaders of the opposition-proposed grand alliance. Speaking to reporters, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “ Prime Minister Modi remarked that those who could not tolerate one another or walk a few steps together are today forced to stay together. We don’t know about the leadership of Mahagathbandhan; their policies are not clear and they have an ill-intent.”

Earlier, a resolution proposed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh was passed  unanimously, which was called “ao milkar kamal khilayen” (Let us together help the lotus — BJP’s election symbol — bloom),  in a stark reminder of a poem of late Vajpayee. The resolution  talked about a “new India”.

Victory in the elections will be the single-point agenda of the ruling BJP from now on. This was made explicitly clear by party president Amit Shah on Saturday. All organisational elections have been deferred till the 2019 general election. Shah had told the leaders present yesterday to focus only on ‘lotus’ (the party) and ‘Bharat Mata’ (nation). Now with their trump card PM Narendra Modi giving the 2019 election slogan for the party, its action time for the cadres.
