Prayagraj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Prayagraj on Sunday to offer prayers at the ongoing Kumbh Mela. He also took a dip in the river Ganges during the and offered his prayers at the Triveni Sangam, the holy confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

PM Modi shared the experience on Twitter with a video of himself taking the holy dip and captioned it- "Had the good fortune of taking a holy dip at the #Kumbh. Prayed for the well being of 130 Crore Indians "

He also performed an aarti at the Triveni Ghat. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accompanied PM Modi on his second visit to the Kumbh Mela that began on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on January 15. The mela will come to a close on March 4, on Mahashivratri day. 

After his prayers, the Prime Minister also took part in the Swachh Kumbh Swachh Aabhaar event (Clean Kumbh, Clean Gratuity), organised by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. He met the sanitation workers at the event and also washed their feet as a mark of respect. 

According to the statement issued by Prime Minister's Office, he will distribute the Swachh Kumbh Swachh Aabhaar awards to the sanitation employees, swachhagrahis, police personnel, and boatmen. The Swachh Seva Samman Benefits package was also digitally announced.

So far, almost 250 million people have taken the holy dip in the Ganges and so, this is being touted as a gesture of gratitude by the PM for the cleanliness workers. 

A number of politicians, ministers, and celebrities have visited the Kumbh Mela in the past few weeks. BJP President Amit Shah, Smriti Irani, Yogi Adityanath along with his cabinet ministers and Akhilesh Yadav are some of the other leaders who shared pictures from their visit to the holy city.
