Ballari: The Ballari gram panchayat officials are trying out an unique idea to stop people from migrating from the drought-hit regions of north Karnataka. The officials have arranged for drummers to roam around the village at nights, announcing that everybody will get job under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and can make use of it to fend for the family. The officers have promised to provide 150 days of daily wage work, especially for the people living in remote areas in groups called Thandas. These regions are listed under drought-hit areas and people have been migrating to cities and other places.
