Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday appointed Prashant Kishor as the vice president of Janata Dal (United).

This makes Kishor the second most powerful person in the party.

Top highlights:

1.    Kishor, who has worked for a number of parties as a poll strategist, recently joined the ruling party in Bihar. Kishor, before coming to India, used to work in Africa with his team named Citizens for Accountable Governance (CAG) that boasted of a massive election feedback mechanism and social media department headed by some alumni of different IITs and IIMs. Kishor's team came in handy for Narendra Modi's campaign in 2014 and Nitish Kumar's in 2015.

2.    Party spokesperson KC Tyagi said Kishor's appointment will help to reach out to social segments out of its traditional support base.

3.    According to reports, Kumar hinted that he considers Kishor as his political successor.

4.    Kishor worked closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the 2014 general elections. It is believed that after he parted ways with the BJP, he is responsible for the massive victory of JD(U), RJD and Congress combine in Bihar in 2015.

5.    However, it is believed that this move of Kumar will cause discontentment among senior members of the JD(U).
