A major terrorist plot to target the national capital was foiled by the security agencies late Sunday night (5 August).

At around 11 pm, security agencies apprehended a man identified as Irfan Hussain Wani, a resident of Danger Pora, Awantipora, when he was on his way to New Delhi to carry out a major terror attack on or before Independence Day.

As per sources, security agencies alerted Jammu police and Wani was arrested from a Delhi-bound bus.

At the time of his arrest, Wani had in his possession eight live hand grenades and over Rs 60,000.

"The man has been taken into custody and this is obviously a terror-related incident. Right now it's too premature to say anything", a senior police officer privy to the investigations told MyNation.

The man has been booked (FIR no. 177/2018) under sections 120-B/121 RPC, 20/21 ULA (P) act, 7/25 Arms Act, 4/5 Explosive Substance Act at Gandhi Nagar police station, where a bomb disposal squad also arrived late night to dispose of the explosives.

MyNation has learnt from reliable sources that this man was instructed to hand over the consignment to another man in Delhi to carry out a terror attack in the national capital on or before 15 August.

However, the timely action of security agencies has foiled a major terror attack in Delhi.

At the time of filing this story, Wani was being interrogated by different security agencies.

Sources say that Wani has made several revelations and more arrests and recoveries will be made soon.
