Kochi: CPM State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had earlier said that the protest organised by nuns in Kochi, Kerala, is worthless and it is part of a political conspiracy. However, State minister Kadakampally Surendran said that Balakrishnan’s stand was not against the protest of the nuns.

“There is no need of politicising the abuse allegation against the Bishop. Police will decide the arrest. No one can demand the arrest of a Bishop including nuns,” said Kadakampally.

Meanwhile, ministers EP Jayarajan and Mercykutty Amma have supported the nuns protesting for justice. Mercykutty Amma had said that no communal forces are behind this protest. She also said that the nuns have every right to protest.

The internal conflict among ministers about the controversial remark of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is now a new headache for the State government.

Minister EP Jayarajan said that the Kerala government is with the victim, supports the protest and the investigation is going forward on the right track. “The government is with the victim. Accused will be punished whoever it is. No one has any complaint about the investigation right now. Even the protesters are satisfied with the probe and they are not raising any allegations. You should ask Kodiyeri Balakrishnan about what he said,” said Jayarajan.
