Thiruvananthapuram: The food and agriculture department has banned 74 coconut oil brands in the state. The action was taken after signs of adulteration were found in samples of coconut oil produced under these brands. The food safety commissioner Anand Singh ordered to ban the production, procurement and sale of these oil brands.

The order states that procurement of the banned oils is a criminal offence. Earlier, on June 30, 51 brands of coconut oil were banned after they were found to be contaminated.
