Chennai: While the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu unveiled a new, bronze statue of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa at their party headquarters in Chennai on November 14, DMK party is all set to unveil the statue of their chief M Karunanidhi in December, the party announced on Thursday.

The new statue of late M Karunanidhi will be located adjacent to the refurbished statue of DMK founder CN Annadurai at the party headquarters, DMK said.

Various political parties and national level leaders are expected to attend the celebration of unveiling the life-size statue of Karunanidhi on December 16.

"All India leaders will unveil a life-size statue of Kalaignar (as Karunanidhi is fondly called)," the party said in a statement without elaborating further.

Former state chief minister M Karunanidhi passed away at the age of 94 on August 7, 2018.
