Mumbai: Late M Karunanidhi had visited Mumbai in 1983 and what he did that day, people of Dharavi will never forget.

R Palaniswamy, in-charge of DMK unit there, had invited Karunanidhi to the city of dreams. It was not just a courtesy visit, but he was concerned about the activities and the needs of the unit.

When asked by Karunanidhi about the problems they were facing, the unit members opened up about their desire for a school in Dharavi, which had to be closed down because of lack of funds.

Wasting no time after hearing this news, Karunanidhi asked his associates to arrange for money to reopen the school. That's not all. Even a library was set up from the money given by Karunanidhi.

When the DMK chief visited Mumbai, thousands of Tamil people attended the public meeting held at Dadar Parsi gymkhana and Adarsh Nagar Maidan in Worli. However, that was the last time he visited Mumbai.

If you've forgotten Dharavi,  let's remind you. Tamil movie Kaala starring superstar Rajanikanth was shot in Dharavi and the film dealt with the problems faced by people of the area.

In fact, many people travelled to Chennai from Mumbai to pay their last respects to their Kalaignar.
