Srinagar: Security forces on early Sunday morning gunned down two Al-Badr terrorists in an encounter that broke out between the terrorists and security forces in Rebon area of south Kashmir's Shopian district.

A senior official told MyNation that a joint team of 1RR of Indian Army, CRPF and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police laid a cordon in Rebon area of Zainapora after they received specific intelligence information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

As security forces zeroed on to the suspected house, the hiding terrorists fired upon security forces triggering an encounter.

A senior police official told MyNation that two bodies have been recovered along with one AK-47 and a pistol from the encounter site.

The two killed terrorists have been identified as Nawaz Wagay of Zainpora Shopian and Yawar Wani of Litter Pulwama. Both were affiliated with terror outfit Al-Badr. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered.


Terrorist Nawaz Ahmad of Ribon was an Urdu student who joined militancy in June.

The police are investigating the links of these two terrorists with the throat-slitting incident, in which one civilian was killed by terrorists after framing him as an informer of the security agencies.
