Hyderabad: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president, has now filed a writ petition in the Hyderabad high court seeking to direct the Andhra Pradesh government to entrust the investigation on the attack to an independent agency, which does not come under the control of the state government.

The petition states that there is, without doubt, a conspiracy in the manner in which the state police and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu are handling the incident and in the way they provide confusing details to the press even before proper investigation.

The YSR leader has explained the events that occurred at the Vishakhapatnam airport in detail and he requested the TDP to close the case at the earliest.

Reddy has also mentioned eight respondents in the writ petition starting with the state of Andhra Pradesh followed by director general of police, along with the chief minister and others.

Jagan Mohan Reddy was attacked by Janapalli Srinivas Rao, a 30-year old restaurant worker, with a knife on October 25, 2018, at the Vishakhapatnam airport.

He was on his way to Hyderabad for his weekly trial with respect to another case against him and the attacker came to him to serve coffee and slashed his wrist with a knife. Sources state that he has got three stitches.

Reddy was given first- aid at the airport. Police officials stated that a special investigation team has been assigned and is headed by Srinivasa Rao, Visakhapatnam assistant commissioner of police (north zone) to probe the case. A case was registered against Rao under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
