New Delhi: Becoming the British High Commissioner to India can be the dream of several people, but not many can realise it. Well, a student of political science in a Noida university just became the UK’s top diplomat in India for 24 hours.

Esha Bahal got this opportunity after winning a video presentation contest held by the High Commission to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, which is celebrated every year on October 11.

Any girl between the age group 18 to 23 could participate in the competition,

The topic was "What does gender equality mean to you?" And the prize? Become the British High Commissioner to India for day!

The British High Commission received a total of 58 submissions across the country. 

In her video, Bahal said, as reported by ANI, "Acting as British High Commissioner for a day has been a great and really unique experience. I've learned about the breadth and depth of UK-India relations — and had the opportunity to highlight the importance of gender equality and inclusivity, issues which are of great importance to me."

Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to India Dominic Asquith said that he was extremely delighted to be able to give young women a platform where they could discuss their rights.

Speaking of Bahal’s video, Asquith said, "Esha is truly impressive. She is clearly committed to girls' rights and her video was outstanding. I would like to congratulate her on her success and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.”
