A sudden sharp decline in DMK leader M Karunanidhi's health caused quite a flutter at the residence in Gopalapuram, Chennai, on Thursday (27 July) evening. A team of doctors and nurses were rushed in from Kavery Hospital nearby. The press release issued by Dr Aravindan Selvaraj, Executive Director, Kavery Hospital, stated that Kalaignar is suffering from age-related ailments. He is currently being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection with intravenous antibiotics and fluids. 

In a sudden and unusual gesture, at 9.45pm, senior leaders of the AIADMK like TN Dy CM O Paneerselvam and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar reached the patriarch's home to inquire into his health. AIADMK leaders recreated history after 35 years. D Jayakumar termed it political decency. He said, "When Amma was unwell, they came and saw. Based on that, we also came and saw."

Even actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan rushed to Gopalapuram. All the leaders met DMK's working president MK Stalin. The doctors advised restriction of visitors considering Karunanidhi's medical condition.

Just around a month ago, on 3 June, Chennai witnessed grand celebrations in the DMK camp as Karunanidhi turned 95.
