Bareilly: Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has refused to let its students use smartphones. Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani, head of the academy has warned students against using smartphones in class. Those found violating the rule would be expelled, he said.

Students are prohibited from using their smartphones even at the hostel. This rule applies for every student at the university.

The authorities at the seminary said that it is a well-known fact that smartphones distract everyone and hence should be banned to help the students focus on their academics.

Ashraf Usmani of the seminary said, “Such restrictions are followed in several other educational institutes in our country and we are not the first to introduce that. These instructions are issued to maintain discipline in the institution, it is a well-established fact that using smartphones distracts students”.

This notice comes as a reminder since the university had already issued a warning ahead of Eid-ul Zuha.
