Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the city residents woke up shivering as the temperature across the city saw a drop due to Cyclone Phethai that has hit Andhra Pradesh. According to the reports from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Medak in Telangana witnessed the lowest temperature in the state at 13 degree Celsius on Monday.

In Hyderabad, the minimum temperature is around 18 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature was 27 degree Celsius, which has a drop of 2 degrees below the usual temperature in the season. Hakimpet, in the outskirts of Hyderabad, witnessed a dip in the temperature to 16 degree Celsius. With no sign of sunlight, the sky across the city remained cloudy.

According to reports, the maximum temperature in the city decreased from 30.6 degrees Celsius on December 10, to 20.8 degrees on December 17.

The reports from Skymet Weather said that another system is developing as a cyclonic circulation in the southwest Bay of Bengal from Tamil Nadu around December 20. Rains are likely over Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Karnataka between December 20 and 23.

According to the IMD reports, also said that isolated places in the districts of Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahbubnagar in Telangana are likely to witness heavy rainfall and stated that cold weather would continue until the storm has cleared.

On Monday, Cyclone Phethai crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast in East Godavari district causing rains, uprooting trees, damaging the corps and paralysing transport.

The coastal region was saved from significant losses, barring damages to standing crops over hundreds of acres. The bad weather conditions forced the authorities to cancel 14 flights to the port city of Visakhapatnam and diverted others to Hyderabad.
