Bhopal/ New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra has landed in trouble after he was accused of poll code violation in election-bound Madhya Pradesh and was named in an FIR.

The Congress had expressed reservation against Patra’s roadside presser on October 27 in Bhopal’s MP Nagar and had approached the Election Commission.

Election Commission officials also said that while the organisers had sought time between 1pm and 3pm for the press conference, it started around noon itself. This too was a violation of the model code of conduct of the Election Commission, officials added.

While originally the FIR was against BJP’s SS Uppal, Patra’s name was added in the wake of a report from Bhopal’s returning officer, the Election Commission said.

Madhya Pradesh’s chief electoral officer VL Kantha Rao confirmed that Patra had been named as an accused in the FIR.

Patra had held the press conference on the National Herald land and had targeted the Gandhi family for its alleged involvement in the National Herald case.
