A woman allegedly set herself ablaze in Bengaluru after her husband repeatedly rebuked her for preparing bland sambar or curry.

31-year-old woman, identified as Jayalakshmi, sent her children to play outside the house, bolted the door and set herself ablaze by pouring kerosene.

Children returned home after a brief time and their repeated knocks went unanswered. They alerted the neighbours about their mother not opening the door.

When the neighbours watched through the window, they saw Jayalakshmi in flames. They immediately informed the police.

The police have now detained Jayalakshmi's husband for interrogation.

The couple is said to have come from Raichur, Karnataka, and were in search of a job in Bengaluru.

Giving a twist to the case, parents of the victim have alleged that she was being tortured by her  husband Nagaraj.

The police are investigating the case.

One year ago, a similar case was filed in Bengaluru, where 50-year-old woman had allegedly committed suicide following a fight with husband about bland curry. The husband accused wife of serving bland curry as she did not want to take care of him. The woman was identified as Nagarathmanna from Cholurpalya in Bengaluru.
