Sources said that Malik was handed over to the UP authorities after a nod from the Indian Army. Earlier on Saturday, Malik was taken into custody by the Army.

The UP police scanned over 200 video recordings related to the incident and then identified Malik, as he is seen in a video firing at the riots, that led to the killing of the cop and a local youth.

Malik is one of the 27 accused named in the FIR lodged for violence rioting and murder in Bulandshahr.
