The traditional course of BEd (Bachelor in Education) is considered compulsory when pursuing a career as a school teacher in India. However, a new ITEP course (Integrated Teacher Education Programme) has been introduced which is a great alternative to BEd. The application process for this programme has already commenced. The deadline for applications is April 30, 2024. If you have never heard about this course before, then let’s explore it together. For those aspiring to become a teacher in India, this course could be the pathway to realizing their dream.

Is BEd necessary?

ITEP is administered by the National Test Agency under NCET. It offers a direct path to teacher training after completing class 12. The BEd course can only be pursued after completing undergraduate degree, however, it is not the case with ITEP. This four-year integrated programme will allow you to become a primary teacher in India without the need for a BEd degree. However, if you wish to pursue a career as an elementary or PGT teacher, then BEd is a compulsory requirement for that.

4-year programme

ITEP is a 4-year programme that can be pursued immediately after class 12. The admission to ITEP is done through entrance exams and exam rankings. Counselling sessions are also conducted for admission. Depending on the performance in the entrance exam, students can opt for integrated programmes such as BSc-BEd, BA-BEd, or BCom-BEd. The application for the courses commenced on April 13, and the deadline is April 30. Applications are only accepted online, and a total of 6100 seats are available for this course.

The application fee for ITEP is as follows:
