Android 9 Pie has been officially released and will be the operating system on Google's Pixel phones. That includes Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. This is an upgrade from the previous operating system Android Oreo.

Google, however, has not announced when the OS will be made available for other android phones from Oppo, Xiaomi and Sony. OnePlus 6 users may also get a chance to download Android 9 Pie soon.

The biggest feature in Android 9 Pie along with App Actions, Digital Wellbeing and Adaptive Battery is the gesture-based navigation. While on the current crop of Pixel mobiles it is an option that can be enabled by changing the settings, in the upcoming Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, it will be the only option.

How to download Android 9 Pie

1) First and foremost only those owning a Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL or an Essential can download the OS.

2) For Pixel users

a) You’ll get a notification telling you that the Android 9 update is available

b) Click on the notification and press 'install' button

c) Restart when asked to do so

3) For Essential users

a) Go to System settings
