Background

When Hardeep was only one and a half years old, his father passed away due to a heart attack. This tragedy brought immense sorrow to the family. The responsibility of raising three daughters and a son fell on his mother’s shoulders. She found a job as a mid-day meal worker in a government school and managed to run the household with her humble earnings.

Mother’s support

Hardeep talked about his struggles in a video. He studied up to class 4 in a government school, where his mother worked as a cook. He was bright in his studies, and his talent was recognized by one of his teachers. The teacher advised Hardeep’s mother to enrol him in a good school.

He was admitted to a private school in a neighbouring village. He went on to score 86 percent in his class 10 exams. Now, he has achieved a remarkable 54th rank in the CDS exam.

Enduring challenges

To cover the educational expenses, Hardeep worked on two hectares of land along with his mother and sisters. Balancing work and study was challenging, but he remained dedicated towards his studies. He would start his day at 5 in the morning and would go to sleep late after studying. With a diligent study schedule, he managed to crack the CDS exam on his third attempt.
