Pune: Ganesh Nanekar, an auto rickshaw driver from Pune, is making headlines for his unique endeavours. His auto rickshaw features various plants in pots that make the ride for his customers pleasant. Ganesh shares that in this sweltering heat, his passengers find joy during their journey in the company of plants. Let’s find out what inspired him to launch this initiative.

What inspired Ganesh?

Ganesh Nanekar and his wife had a habit of planting saplings. Initially they grew plants in a bottle and placed them in the rickshaw. Encouraged by the positive response from passengers, Ganesh decided to install more pots in the rickshaw. Gradually, his vehicle was adorned by several plants.

18 plants

Ganesh’s auto rickshaw features plants such as Tulsi, Gokarna, and some flower plants. Currently, there are 18 plants in pots and two money plants in bottles adding a unique charm to his vehicle. The greenery not only adds to the aesthetic appearance of the rickshaw but also shields passengers from the scorching heat of the sun. Ganesh diligently tends to the plants and waters them three times in a day. He uses cocopeat, a fertilizer made with coconut husk, to ensure plants’ healthy growth.

Meri Vasundhara

Remarkably, Ganesh has also given a name to his auto rickshaw ‘Meri Vasundhara.’ Before embarking on this journey, he conducted his research and sought advice from garden experts. He highlights that besides spreading joy through his rickshaw, he aims to raise an awareness about the importance of tree plantation. With the present situation of environmental degradation, he believes that it’s crucial to take action. His efforts have sparked discussions on the internet, and he is receiving immense appreciation from the community.
