Srikanth Bollapally, a resident of Doddaballapura, Bengaluru, grew up in a humble family where receiving education was a tremendously difficult task. Despite facing various challenges, he persevered and did not lose hope. To earn a living, he even worked for 18 hours a day for which he received only Rs 1000.
With hopes of giving his family a better a life, he ventured into a gardening with an initial investment of Rs 18,000. Today, his business yields an annual income of Rs 60 to 70 crore.
The beginnings
Financial difficulties at home forced him to pause his studies for three years after completing class 10. He worked hard to pay off all the debt. In the year 1995, he learned about the potential of flower farming, prompting him to seize an opportunity in Bengaluru.
Enduring challenges
In the initial days, Srikanth lacked knowledge about the farming methods. He took up a job at a farm in Bengaluru where flowers were cultivated. He diligently worked for 18 hours each day but could only make Rs 1000 in a month. It was challenging to sustain household expenses with his income; however, he remained persistent in his efforts.
Starting the business
His interest in flower farming led him to venture into modern farming methods. These advanced farming techniques completely transformed Srikanth’s life. With an investment of Rs 18,000, he started horticulture, focusing on flower cultivation. His efforts resulted in a remarkable profit of Rs 5 lakh in the first year. Today, he cultivates flowers like roses and carnations on 40 out of 50 acres of land.
Achieving success
Srikanth Bollapally is the proud owner of Om Sri Sai Flowers. His farm is now equipped with facilities like polyhouses, solar panels, and drip-sprinkler irrigation systems, which have significantly boosted farming productivity. He has been invested in the same business for the last 25 years, and today, the firm boasts an impressive annual turnover of Rs 60-70 crore.
