Ahmedabad: Burgers loaded with cheese and fried patties are everyone’s favourite. They are not particularly a healthy option to add to your diet but enjoying them as a cheat meal once in a few months will definitely cause no harm to anyone. People are fond of eating non-vegetarian and vegetarian burgers alike. Here’s a success story of a business owner, who understood the fast-food market well and used that to his advantage.

Who is Tapan Brahmbhatt?

Tapan Brahmbhatt is a resident of Ambaji, Gujarat. He holds an engineering degree in Computer Science. Ordering food from restaurants was a regular thing for him and his friends. But it is always a struggle to find good quality food at affordable prices.

Tapan got the idea of opening his own fast-food business. He was aware that burger is a food item that is loved by both kids and adults. He discussed this idea with two of his friends and started working on it. He named his startup ‘Tummy Tikki Burger’.

Deciding on the brand’s name

Tapan shares that he named his food outlet after his sister’s name. His sister, Tami, is also his close friend whom he relies on for all his problems. Tami has always been supportive of his dreams. This was the reason that Tapan decided to name his food outlet ‘Tummy Tikki Burger’.

Selling burgers on a bike

With a very small amount of Rs 700, Tapan made an investment in his startup and started with the work. He chose a perfect location to sell his burgers. Tapan wanted to do it in an unconventional way and his idea really did work. He started selling the burgers on his motorcycle in the river side area of Ahmedabad. It was also due to the fact that he had limited funds to run the business.

Families and friends often visit the river side area of Ahmedabad for relaxation in evenings and nights; this made it easier for Tapan and his friends to spread a word about their food outlet.

Marketing strategies

Tapan introduced a unique marketing strategy for Tummy Tikki Burger by offering customers the option of paying after tasting. The price of one burger was set at Rs 60. Tapan shares that when he sold his first burger, the customer only paid Rs 50 for it, but it made him so happy that he kept that note as a memento.

The customers place online orders for events and parties. Tapan has gained the trust of his customers by providing excellent service 24/7.

Expanding the business

After completing the graduation, Tapan and his friends got jobs in the medical sector but none of them liked their work. They were still receiving orders for ‘Tummy Tikki Burger’ online.

The prospects of owning a business were exciting but Tapan’s friends could not risk resigning from their jobs. Tapan was left with no other choice, and so he quit his job and devoted his entire time to the business.

He single-handedly ran all the services from preparing the burgers to delivering them to people’s home be it day or night. His dedication paid off when he started earning profit from the sales. Today, Tapan operates three outlets of Tummy Tikki Burger in Ahmedabad and makes a profit of Rs 10 lakhs.
