Mumbai: Delivering non-vegetarian food to a customer who had ordered a vegetarian dish has landed the food delivery service provider Zomato in trouble. To their bad luck the customer reportedly happens to be a lawyer.

According to media reports the food delivery platform and an eatery was slapped with a fine of Rs 55,000 for the error.

The complainant, Shanmukh Deshmukh, a city-based lawyer moved the consumer court stating he received butter chicken when he had ordered for paneer butter masala. The similarity of the look of both the dishes was enough to make an unsuspecting Deshmukh to eat it, stated reports.

The court instructed Zomato to pay the fine amount within 45 days.

However, Zomato has reportedly stated that the lawyer sought to defame it, adding that it had refunded his amount.

Zomato attempted to side with deniability on its side as it told the consumer forum that it was the eatery which supplied the non-vegetarian dish, but the forum considered it to be equally responsible.

The eatery accepted its mistake.

Both the eatery and Zomato were asked to cough up fines for deficiency in service and mental harassment, reports stated.
