Banda (Uttar Pradesh): A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakot district, police said on Tuesday.

The teenager, who is student of Class 10, has said in her complaint at the Mau Police Station that she was raped multiple times by her father over a period of six months. After her mother died, her father, aged around 50, married another woman, who does not live with him anymore, according to the complaint.

A case has been registered against the accused on Monday under Section 376 (rape) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The accused has been arrested, the police said.

In a similar incident, a 45-year-old man was arrested by police on August 1 for allegedly impregnating his 15-year-old daughter. The incident occurred at Musunuru near Kavali, Andhra Pradesh.

The incident came to light after the victim's mother and the victim visited the Government Area Hospital in Kavali urging them to abort the pregnancy on July 30 evening. The hospital authority and doctor alerted the Kavali Police Station.

Meanwhile, in a bid to combat the rising offenses on children, the Union Cabinet approved amendments to strengthen the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by including the death penalty for aggravated sexual assault on children, besides providing stringent punishment for other crimes against minors, officials said. The proposed changes in the POCSO Act also provide for fines and imprisonment to curb child pornography.
