New Delhi: Delhi court has awarded expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar life imprisonment and fined Rs 25 lakh for raping a minor in Unnao in 2017. The court convicted expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar on December 16 for raping a minor in Unnao in 2017.

The court also ordered Rs 10 lakh compensation to the victim.

The court convicted Sengar for rape under the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act for offence of public servant committing penetrative sexual assault against a child.
The court asked the government to provide security for the victim.

District Judge Dharmesh Sharma, however, acquitted co-accused Shashi Singh of all charges. The court had on August 9 framed charges against the MLA and Singh under Sections 120 b (criminal conspiracy), 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping or inducing a woman to compel for marriage), 376 (rape) and other sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Sengar had raped the victim, then 17, on June 4, 2017. On April 3, 2018, the victim's father was allegedly framed in an illegal arms case and arrested. He died in judicial custody on April 9, 2018.

On July 28 this year, a speeding truck rammed into the car in which the victim, her two aunts and their lawyer were travelling. Her aunts were killed and the victim and her lawyer were critically injured.
