Bengaluru: In what comes as a matter of pride, Apple is all set to begin the production of its flagship and environment-friendly iPhone 12 smartphone in India for the local customers.

"We are proud to be starting production of iPhone 12 in India for our local customers," Apple was quoted by IANS in a statement.

"Apple is dedicated to making the best products and services in the world to delight our customers," the company added.

It should be noted that Apple’s iPhone 12 was released in October. It received immense response from Indians. It contributed significantly to Apple’s gains in the 2020 festive quarter (October-December period) in the country, according to market intelligence firm CyberMedia Research.

Moreover, Apple for the first time doubled its smartphone market share in India to nearly 4 per cent.

Reportedly, Apple registered over 60 per cent growth (year-on-year) in its India business in the whole 2020 while for the festive quarter, the growth was an impressive 100 per cent (year-on-year).

Apple started manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017 with iPhone SE, and today, it manufactures some of its most advanced iPhones in India including XR, iPhone 11, and now iPhone 12.

The new iPhone12 is environment-friendly as it utilises 100 per cent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, including the new camera, Taptic Engine, and MagSafe, as well as Apple's MagSafe accessories.

Apple's suppliers in India are also reportedly relying on solar and wind energy for the production.

The iPhone 12 comes with 5G technology, the fastest A14 Bionic chip, edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR displays, and a sophisticated flat-edge design with Ceramic Shield front cover, offering four times better drop performance.
