TMC's Nazir Khan was arrested from Sealdah station in Kolkata on Wednesday with unaccounted cash worth Rs 20 lakh.
Nazir Khan, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor of Titagarh Municipality has reportedly been arrested from Sealdah station in Kolkata on Wednesday with an unaccounted cash worth Rs 20 lakh. Khan was stopped the moment he had reached Sealdah station.
He took a train journey from New Delhi to Sealdah, by Duronto Express, when the special task force (STF) of the RPF stopped him after finding his movement suspicious. With election round the corner and Bengal going to polls in each of the 7 phases, the STF in railways and customs in airports are on heightened alert.
Inspector Ajay Shankar found Khan suspicious while he was on duty at platform No 9A. Around 4 PM, Nazir, with a trolley bag was asked to reveal what he was carrying. When he couldn't satisfactorily answer, his bag was checked and stacks of cash were found in his luggage, hid behind loads of used clothes.
The notes were of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 denominations. He could not provide any document authorizing him to carry such a huge amount of cash, that too just ahead of the elections.
