New Delhi: Utsav Bains, who created flutters in the judicial fraternity alleging that there was a grave conspiracy to fix Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi after a former staffer levelled charges of sexual harassment against him, has also contended that some people had claimed to be able to fix the bench of judges in the apex court.

Taking the matter seriously, the apex court has ordered the Director of the Central Bureau of Intelligence (CBI), the director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Delhi Police commissioner to “seize the relevant material in order to support the contents of the affidavit furnished by the officer of the Court, Mr Utsav Bains, Advocate”.

According to the order of the SC, Utsav mentioned “certain names and has also alleged that they have asserted that they could fix the Bench of the Judges. This is a very serious aspect of the affidavit filed by Mr Utsav Singh Bains, a young man whose entire career is before him”.

“Considering the seriousness of the allegations as the system has absolutely no place for such fixers, we cannot leave the matter at that. It becomes our responsibility to keep the Institution clean as well as to ensure that the image of this Institution is not tarnished by such allegations to undertake the probe in this matter,” the apex court mentioned in its Wednesday order.

Bains has said that he would want to furnish another affidavit in the matter on Thursday. The SC told him to do so by 10.30 am. The court would then decide upon the modalities of the probe. The court was also hearing Utsav’s claims into how disgruntled former staffers were behind the sexual harassment allegations on the CJI.
