Bengaluru: People across India – till date – have donate Rs 1500 crore towards the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Trust treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giri said, "For the construction of the grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the whole nation is donating funds. We aim to reach 4 lakh villages and 11 crore families across the country during our donation drive," as reported by Hindustan Times.

"We are conducting the donation drive from January 15 and it will continue till Feb 27. I am here in Surat as part of the drive. People are contributing to the trust. After 492 years, people have got such an opportunity again to do something for the Dharma," he further added.

The drive for the collection of funds began on January 14 and will go on till the last week of February.
The first citizen of India President Ram Nath Kovind donated Rs 5 lakh while other politicians too did not hesitate contributing their might.

In fact, such is the fervour to donate that even transgenders have pitched in.

They had added that it is an emotional moment of their life as they maintained that centuries ago Lord Rama had blessed that Kalyug will usher in good times for them.

They are also of the firm belief that such a contribution will earn them merit.

It was in November 2019 that the Supreme Court of India decreed that the land under litigation belongs to Hindus. The court also asked the government to form a committee to oversee the construction.

It was in August last year, on the first occasion of abrogation of articles 370 and 35A that Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the   bhumi pujan at Ayodhya.

Presently, the construction is in progress and will take an estimated time period of 36-40 months. The total costs come up to Rs 1100 crore.
