Chennai: Kollywood hero Suriya recently courted controversy with his remarks on the Centre's Draft National Education Policy (NEP). While Tamil Nadu ministers and BJP leaders were up in arms against the actor, Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan extended support.

Now, superstar Rajinikanth too has spoken in favour of Suriya. During the audio launch of Kaapaan (starring Mohanlal, Suriya and Arya) in Chennai on Sunday, Rajinikanth reportedly said that he agrees with Suriya's remarks on the NEP and he hoped that the latter's opinion reaches PM Modi.

Actor-politician Rajinikanth showered Suriya with praises. "I saw the other side of Suriya," said the Darbar hero.

Rajini spoke about his upcoming film as well. "The film is turning out well and AR Murugadoss, the director, is all set to make this the best film of my career," he said.

Last week, during a function, Tamil actor Suriya had asked, “The new education policy decides the future of 30 crore students across the country. I’m anguished that no one has come forward to talk about this. The focus is much on entrance exams, but not on quality and equal education to all the students. Without giving an equal education, how do you expect quality from students?”

Suriya had also said that he represented all the students and their parents who are unaware of the disadvantages of the new policy.

Sources from the BJP say that Rajini's statement was made in haste, while adding that the latter should have deliberated upon this before extending support.
