Bengaluru: Pakistan will receive 45 million doses of India-manufactured Covid-19 vaccine later this month, the country's health secretary has informed.

The Covid-19 vaccines will be received under agreement with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) which was set up in 2000 to ensure improved access to vaccines for children living in the poorest nations.

Another 16 million doses will be delivered to Islamabad in June.

Pakistan's National Health Services Regulations and Coordination Ministry secretary Aamir Ashraf Khawaja informed the Public Accounts Committee that 27.5 million people will be vaccinated using the imported vaccines.

The vaccines would arrive in batches in the coming weeks.

India has so far dispatched 579.19 lakh doses to 65 nations either free of cost or on a commercial basis. Bangladesh has received the most number of vaccine doses (90 lakh).
