New Delhi: Ahead of the all-important last phase of the Lok Sabha election when even his own constituency Varanasi goes to poll on May 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be far away from the madding crowd. He will be in the valley of Uttarakhand, offering his prayers at the shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The Special Protection Group (SPG) that is responsible for PM Modi's security is already stationed there sanitising each and every spot the prime minister will be visiting. Sources confirmed that a cave has been earmarked where PM Modi may meditate.

Top sources also said, initially, the plan was limited to only Kedarnath which got extended to Badrinath as well. He will be there on May 18 and 19.

Accommodation for the prime minister and his security staff have already been arranged and evacuation plans are also on standby if snowfall starts. This year Kedarnath has witnessed repeated snowfall that is a big concern not only for the state authorities but also the SPG.

PM Modi will offer his prayers to Kedarnath on May 18 and in Badrinath the next day. He has a long-standing connection with these places. As the Gujarat chief minister, Modi had offered his help after June 2013 flashfloods that killed over 5,000 people, which was refused by the Congress-led state government. After coming to power, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been instrumental in the restoration of the Kedarnath valley.
