Bengaluru: The worst fears of Nirbhaya rapists are seemingly manifesting themselves as the Additional Director General (Prisons) of Uttar Pradesh has confirmed that Tihar jail has sought the services of two hangmen. 

However, no date has been mentioned by the jail authorities. But additionally, they have sought their services on a short notice. 

The letter seeking the services of the two hangmen were written on December 9 and the consent to send the two hangmen was sent back on the same day. 

Kumar, the ADG said, “Well I can confirm from you that I have received a letter from the Superintendent of Tihar Jail requesting the services of two hangmen whom we have on our rolls. The date is not specified but they have asked us to keep them in readiness and make them available on a short notice. We have already told them. We have given our consent in writing and told them that as and when required, we will be providing them on a need basis. This letter was received by fax on December 9. I gave the reply on the same day,” as reported by Republic TV. 

Meanwhile, all the four accused will be produced before a Delhi court on Friday (December 13) via videoconferencing. The court is hearing a petition by the victim’s parents for a speedy execution of the convicts. 

As the threat perception to the four convicts is high, the court decided to have their virtual presence. 

As many as six men raped Nirbhaya in the year 2012 in a moving bus. Of the six men, one was treated as a juvenile as his age during the committing of the offence was under 18. Of the remaining five, one of them committed suicide. 

The mercy petition of Vinay was submitted before the President but he later withdrew it. 

Another accused Vinay has submitted a mercy petition on the grounds that the Delhi air pollution is so bad and there is no need to hang anyone as the life expectancy has shrunken. 

The parents of Nirbhaya want the four to be hanged on the very day the woman was raped and murdered.
