Bengaluru: It’s a new chapter in Indian Railways as it unveils Economy AC 3-Tier coach which is expected to replace the legacy Sleeper Class coaches, as reported by Times of India.

It is to be noted that the coach will have 83 berths instead of the existing 64. These will be 11 more than the berths in the Sleeper Class, marking a greater sitting capacity.

The company has taken care not to compromise on the comfort level despite the increase in accommodation.

The website notes that it has been created by moving the main electrical control to the coach's underslung.
These coaches have been built by Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala.

Features:

It has personalised AC vents, reading lights and USB chargers for every berths.

The berths are fire-proof, modified climbing ladders and snacks table for side berths.

These coaches will replace the existing sleeper coaches in Mail and Express and give AC experience to the passengers.

"We have tried to make up for the lesser space by providing personalised comfort features to passengers, some of the features match aircraft and luxury cars. All this has been done with only a marginal increase in manufacturing cost", General Manager of RCF Ravinder Gupta was quoted as saying.

As regards the speed, these coaches can easily touch the 160 kmph mark. They can also be used on the Golden Quadrilateral. Currently ICF coaches prevent Railways from running the non-premium trains at more than 110 kmph.

The fares in these coaches will be priced between the existing tariffs of Sleeper and 3-Tier coaches, the website adds.
