Gadchiroli: At least 15 jawans have been killed on Wednesday in an IED blast carried out by naxals in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. According to reports, the incident happened when a team of the C-60 squad commandoes, an anti-naxal unit, was patrolling the Kurkheda-Korchi road.

The ultras also torched 27 machines and vehicles at a road construction site in Gadchiroli.

This is a major attack by naxals in quite some time. Their activities have significantly reduced after security forces carried out major crackdowns on the militants under Modi government.

Fewer security men have lost their lives under the Narendra Modi government as compared to five years of the UPA government between 2009-2014. They have also managed to eliminate more left extremists under naxal operations. This revelation was made in an RTI which showed almost one-third of soldiers were killed in naxal attacks in the last five years of Modi as Prime Minister as compared to the Manmohan Singh led government.
