Women are fiercely exhibiting their strength and significance in Indian society day by day. Empowered with education and opportunities, women of this era are proving their calibre in all the fields of life. Once heavily male-dominated toppers list for many Chartered Accountants exams, now finally seeing a balance with women comprising 48% of the qualifiers.

Talking about the total number of CAs in the country, women make up 30% of the group marking a huge leap from a mere 8% in 2000. When discussing the students, out of 8.63 lakh students, 43% are women.

There has also been an increase in women toppers in the past few years. In 2020, four out of six toppers in the final and intermediate exams were women. All the toppers in the 2021 old and new exams were also women and this pattern continued in 2022 and 2023 as well. According to the data, a total of 75 women have scored the highest scores in different Chartered Accountant exams over the last 10 years.

A new course was added by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 2023 in sync with the National Education Policy, 2020. Speaking about the surge in the number of women participating in one of the gruelling and difficult professional courses in India, ICAI President Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal said, “Participation of women in this profession in accountancy, tax and finance is increasing phenomenally."

Statistics show that in 2019, out of 2.91 lakh Chartered Accountants in India, 73,807 were women. This number improved in 2023 1.2 lakh women CAs out of 3.9 lakh. In 2018, the number of women CAs was 70,047 and in 2017 it was 64,685. These numbers illustrate that over time, more and more women are coming forward and achieving their career goals.
