Bengaluru: In another step towards empowering the girl child, the Uttar Pradesh government, under the Mission Shakti campaign, will hold special counselling camps for girl students who aspire to make their career in civil services, army, police, air force, medical, engineering and other fields.

Named 'Prashasan ki Paathshala', it will be held in February in various districts.

It is to be noted that the district magistrates and other administrative officials of each district are tasked to enroll girls for classes.

The administration will also host sports activities for girls to give them more confidence. Furthermore, it will also distribute prizes to winners.

Apart from these, the officials will also hold campaigns to create awareness on domestic violence act, dowry prohibition act, sexual harassment of women at workplace (prevention, prohibition and redressal) Act 2013, through seminars and classes.

In another interesting programme called 'Haq ki baat, jiladhikari ke sath' a two-hour interaction is planned in which district magistrates will hold meetings with women regarding incidents of domestic violence, dowry, sexual harassment of women at workplace, etc.

Great stress on value system:

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is giving great stress on value system.

It intends to educate boys on the need to respect women under its “Mission Shakti” scheme.

It also entails programmes to make women more self-reliant, confident and getting more security.

A popular website noted that in the first phase of the campaign till October 25, the higher education department had created awareness among 5,57,883 students in 6,349 colleges through webinar, awareness programmes and competitions.

And in the second phase, the department had set up a portal in which all relevant information about programmes being run for women and girls were also put up.

Such endeavours by state governments to protect women and their interests go a long way in ensuring justice to the weaker sex.
