India is currently facing an outbreak of T-meth, crystal meth in tea bags. However, this is not a new problem; these drugs have been circulating in several countries including Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia being the latest hotspot.

Many nations all over the world are fighting this problem which is largely attributed to Chinese and South Asian cartels exporting the drugs. Indonesia, Canada, the Philippines, and Malaysia, have also dealing with it since 2019.

In 2022, the Federal Police of Australia busted several exporters and seized over 2.1 tonnes of meth tea bags, which had a street value of around $ 1 billion.

During the same year, officials in Myanmar also confiscated around 1,380 kg of these meth tea bags, with a value of $23 million. The meth was disguised as Chinese green tea, hidden in sacks, and wrapped in plastic with fake labels.

Recently, in Delhi, Inspector Subash Chand and his team received a tip about a woman and her smuggler partner, supplying drugs to their customers. The police busted them and seized their 1000g of drugs from them.

According to DCP Ankit Singh, the woman is identified as Lalmuankimi (43) and her partner as Laldinmawia (31). They claim to be from Mizoram but are Myanmar refugees residing in India.

Upon investigation, the two suspects revealed that the drugs were part of a shipment imported from Myanmar. They also talked about a third suspect named Lalgengmawii in Uttam Nagar with 8 kg of drugs.

The police conducted a raid in the area and arrested the third suspect but she claimed that the drug had been sold. Police are trying to track down the customers who bought the TMeth.
