New Delhi: Amid all the unfolding political developments in Bhopal and New Delhi, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia tendered his resignation to party president Sonia Gandhi.

Earlier, in the morning, Scindia landed at the door of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Union home minister Amit Shah in tow.

Scindia started from his residence in Delhi after 10 am and went to meet home minister Amit Shah, after which both drove down together to the residence of the Prime Minister.

Shortly after the meeting, Scindia tweeted his letter of resignation from the Congress in which he said it was time for him to move on after working with the Congress for 18 years.

17 Congress MLAs in Madhya Pradesh have also tendered their resignations along with Scindia.

"Having been a primary member of the Congress party for the last 18 years, it is now time for me to move on. I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress and as you well know, this path has been drawing out over the last year," Scindia said in his resignation.

"To reflect and realise the aspirations of my people and my workers I believe that it is best that I now look forward to a fresh start," he added.

Jyotiraditya Scindia chose his father Madhavrao Scindia's birth anniversary to upset the Congress.

Madhavrao Scindia was with the Jan Sangh and later joined the Congress to take on Atal Bihari Vajpai from Gwalior and won with a huge margin. Madhavrao Scindia is credited with introducing Shatabdi Express while he was the railway minister during Rajiv Gandhi' tenure as PM.
