Kollam: A Class 12 student was hacked in Kollam district, Kerala, on Sunday night by a youth for allegedly rejecting his marriage proposal. The injured girl is admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital and her condition is said to be serious. The accused is identified as Ananthu, a private bus employee.

Sources say Ananthu entered the girl's house by removing the roof tiles around 2 am and stabbed the girl with a screwdriver. Ananthu stabbed the girl thrice, and her parents came to know about the incident as the girl started to wail loudly in pain. 

Initially, the girl was taken to taluk (sub-division) hospital, but as she needed advanced treatment, she was moved to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

On May 31, a 39-year-old woman was hacked in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, by a youth for allegedly rejecting his marriage proposal. She has been identified as Pushpa. The woman suffered serious ear injuries in the incident and has been admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

An 18-year-old girl was set ablaze in Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, on March 12, by a jilted lover. The girl, hailing from Ayirur, succumbed to burn injuries on March 21.

On April 4, a 22-year-old girl, who was set ablaze in Thrissur, Kerala, by a youth for allegedly rejecting his marriage proposal, succumbed to injuries. The victim is identified as Neethu, a native of Chiyaram. The accused, a native of Vadakkekadu, was handed over to the police by the locals when he tried to escape.
