Thiruvananthapuram: A 39-year-old woman was hacked in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, by a youth for allegedly rejecting his marriage proposal. She has been identified as Pushpa. The woman suffered serious ear injuries in the incident and has been admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

The accused, identified as Nidhin, a native of Kerala's Kollam, has been taken into custody.  The victim is a nursing assistant in SAT Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. As per sources, Pushpa is a widow and Nidhin forced her for a second marriage. When she rejected his proposal, he hacked her. On May 31, the woman was attacked by the accused when she was going for work.  The locals rushed to her rescue and took her to the hospital. 

Similarly, an 18-year-old girl was set ablaze in Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala on March 12, by a youth for allegedly rejecting his marriage proposal. The girl, hailing from Ayirur, suffered serious burn injuries in the incident and has been admitted to a private hospital in Kottayam.

The accused, identified as Ajin Reji Mathew, a native of Kumbanad in Thiruvalla, has been arrested.  The victim is a BSc student studying in a private institution. As per sources, the accused had proposed to the girl when she was studying in Class 12. Later, the accused approached the girl's family with the proposal, but the parents rejected it too. 

On April 4, a 22-year-old girl, who was set ablaze in Thrissur, Kerala, by a youth for allegedly rejecting his marriage proposal, has succumbed to injuries. The victim is identified as Neethu, a native of Chiyaram. The accused, a native of Vadakkekadu, was handed over to the police by the locals when he tried to escape.

The accused Nitish was reportedly upset with the girl for rejecting his love proposal. He visited her house, poured petrol on the girl and set her on fire. Even though Neethu's parents tried to rescue her, she could not be saved.
