Wayanad: Congress leader and  Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi landed at Kannur international airport on Tuesday (August 27) and started his journey to his Lok Sabha constituency, Wayanad, by road.

Security has been stepped up in both Kannur and Wayanad districts in view of his visit. During his four-day visit, he will be meeting the local residents and other leaders of the party.

According to sources, Rahul will be visiting the flood-hit regions in Wayanad on Tuesday and Wednesday( August 27, 28). On August 29 and 30, he will be visiting the flood-hit areas in Kozhikode district and Malappuram Assembly segment, which comes under Wayanad constituency.  

On August 12, Rahul had visited the flood-hit areas in his constituency, including the worst-hit Puthumala, and urged the Centre to "aggressively support" the people hit by floods and landslides in southern states.

At least 125 people were killed and some 16,000 houses were damaged in Kerala this month in the floods that devastated the southern state for a second year in a row. Wayanad was one of the worst-hit areas in the state when a second spell of monsoon rains triggered landslides and floods this month.

According to sources,  Rahul had rushed a batch of goods of 50,000 kg rice and other essential items like sugar, salt and different varieties of dal.

Besides food, it also carried bed sheets, blankets and mats, early this month. The money for the relief materials was taken from the MP fund and rest was collected by party workers from various states.
