Kochi: The Kerala nun who accused former Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal of rape has filed a new complaint alleging online harassment by Mulakkal and his supporters. In her complaint to the Kerala Women’s Commission, the nun claimed that Mulakkal was using social media to defame her. She also alleged that Mulakkal and his supporters were circulating videos identifying her.

The Kerala Police have summoned Franco Mulakkal asking him to appear before the Kottayam district addition court. The hearing in the case will begin on November 11.

The Vatican had dismissed an appeal filed by another Kerala nun - Sister Lucy Kalappura, challenging the Franciscan Clarist Congregations’ (FCC) decision to expel her for not following the norms of the FCC and living a lifestyle not complying with the rules of the nunnery. Sister Lucy Kalappura was expelled by the congregation in August this year.

The congregation had charged her for her involvement on social media cannot be appreciated. It further states that though several chances were given to her for correcting her mistakes, sister Lucy was not ready for it. Lucy's stand on Kerala nun rape case has led to many discussions in the state about the freedom and the individual rights of a nun. The congregation, under the Roman Catholic Church, had said the nun was issued 'proper canonical warnings', but did not show the needed remorse.
