Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police arrested four men for allegedly raping two minor girls. Two of the accused are the father and uncle of the minor girls.

According to sources, the men allegedly raped the two girls on multiple occasions in the last 12 months. The incidents came to light after one of the victims, with the help of a panchayath member, filed a complaint with Kallambalam Police.

It was only after the police began the investigation that the minors’ mother became aware of the alleged incidents.

The Attingal court remanded the accused.

Atrocities against children have seen an increase in the state in the last four years, with at least 6,000 POCSO cases still pending trial.

In a similar case, on December 5, 2018, a minor was raped by more than 20 people included her father at Parassinikadavu in Kannur, Kerala. While questioning the victim, she told police that her father was the one who first raped her two years ago.

A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father and a relative at Chingavanam in Kottayam in 2018. Police arrested the 26-year old man and his cousin after a medical examination report revealed that the child had been brutally raped. The incident came to light after the teacher of the 'Anganwadi' (childcare centre) noticed changes in her behaviour.
